Det Synliga / The Visible. Contemporary Swedish photography

Artipelag’s extensive photographic exhibition contains works from the last five years produced by 21 Swedish photographers. The starting point for the exhibition is the changes which took place within photography during the 1990s. The exhibition also puts into focus a clear tendency during the last 20 years in Swedish photography; women photographers have set the tone and have been the most successful photographers in Sweden since the 1990s until today. This claim will be both tested and advanced at the…

Vi hade fel!

In 1976, Carl Johan De Geer, DN’s then fashion reporter Rebecka Tarschys, Gunila Axén and Marie-Louise Ekman travelled to Paris and the most prominent fashion houses. Their assignment was to give an account of a phenomena they believed was in the process of dying out: the exclusive, upper-class haute couture. Burns will show selections of a unique photographic portrayal of fashion in which the photographer later observes: We were wrong! While the “ We Were Wrong!” photographs are being shown at Berns, Färgfabriken will present the first, extensive retrospective…

Totems by Ragnar Persson

In cooperation with Gallery Steinsland Berliner, Berns Gallery 2.35:1 presents Totems, an exhibition of the work of Ragnar Persson. Artist Ragnar Persson is principally a drawer, even if he also uses paint or photographs,  makes collages or sculptures. As in a classical adventure tale, Persson uses the forest as a symbol of existential development. The forest is a place free of obligation and demands, a free zone and contradiction to what is enclosed and delimited. A hiding place in which prohibitions and lecturers are absent, filled with temptation, horrors and…

The art of not making

The Art of Not Making is the title of a celebrated book issued last year by the artist and author, Michael Petry. In it he presents one of the most potent movements of the early 20th century: Ideology-driven art with a strong visual expression, in which the artist has not participated in the manual process but, rather, has left it to specialist craftsmen.
